Do you remember the Ram Rumble Bee introduced in 2003? That drone yellow pickup based on the '60's Super Bee muscle car? Well, to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Ram presented the new HEMI-powered Ram 1500 Rumble Bee concept at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.
The Rumble Bee concept was created around the 2013 Ram 1500 R/T and faithfully sticks to the traditional aesthetics of the Rumble Bee. Painted in drone yellow with a matte finish, it features a "Speed Bee" design inside the black stripes that fade into honeycombs on each side of the car. These stripes span the sides of the truck and then curve around the top of the bed over the Mopar tonneau and are reminiscent of the racing vehicles of the late '60s and early '70s. The standard factory 22-inch wheels that the Ram 1500 R/T sits on have been replaced by 24-inch Vellano VRH custom wheels. In addition, King Suspension added new suspension that lowered the car by 2 inches and enhances handling, performance, and appearance. To add some contrast to the exterior coloring, the grille, hood vents, badging, fuel door, and the dual exhaust tailpipes are painted in gloss black.
Although the interior is based on the R/T, the Rumble Bee has its own unique features that give its interior a distinct look. It features black and drone yellow leather sport mesh seats stitched together by two-tone yellow and light grey thread. Emblazoned on the seats, floor mats, and door bolsters are "Rumble Bee" lettering and Ram logos. The center-piece features an amber-encased bee on the rotary shifter knob that lights up and showcases a honeycomb pattern. To add to the intimidation factor, there are two buttons below the knob that control the exhaust cutouts, allowing the exhaust to bypass the Mopar cat-back dual-exhaust system. The result is the full roar of a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8.
Beneath the hood of the Rumble Bee lays a 5.7-liter HEMI with 395 horsepower and 407 foot-pounds of torque partnered with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Adding some styling to engine, the Rumble Bee features a gloss yellow and black engine cover with a honeycomb pattern. To add some kick, the Ram added a Mopar cold-air intake system that increases torque significantly and gives the Rumble Bee a quick jump off the line.
The Rumble Bee celebrates the heritage of Ram trucks and adds some spice to the pickup truck lineup. There was no better place to unveil this concept than the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. The only thing to do now is wait and see if this concept sees the production line.
