2013 smart fourjoy concept

More than two seats are also fully in keeping with the smart brand experience: the smart fourjoy proves this. The study has all the typical smart attributes and embodies pure carefree enjoyment of urban life. The compact four-seater is the forerunner of a new smart generation and is celebrating its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (12 – 22 September 2013).

No doors, no rear window and an open roof – the smart fourjoy dispenses with unnecessary ballast. At the same time this gives viewers an unhindered view of the futuristic interior with its striking rear seat bench in the style of lounge furniture. This means that the vehicle has ample space for four people.

With its compact dimensions (length/width/height: 3494/1978/1494 millimetres) and a turning circle of 9.1 metres the smart fourjoy boasts the agility typical of the brand and is able to show off its strengths, especially in cities around the world. And thanks to the state-of-the-art electric drive with a 55 kW magneto-electric motor the zero-local-emission smart fourjoy offers agile driving performance without any shift delays.

What’s more, the four-seater has inherited many of the genes of the original smart. “The smart fourjoy is the perfect icon of our smart design philosophy that is being carried into a new era. For the first time we are showing the future sporty four-seater character of the new smart family,” says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. “The typical smart silhouette, the clear lines and styling and also the further development of the smart face make this study a modern design icon.”

Numerous design elements are a reference to the first smart model series. These include the extremely short overhangs, the wheels positioned on the four most outer points, the tail lights integrated in the sturdy tridion cell and the spherical instrument cluster.

Dr Annette Winkler, Head of smart, says: “The smart fourjoy is a study that successfully translates the unique design and the urban driving fun of the smart fortwo to an extremely compact four-seater. Numerous details of previous show cars that received very positive feedback have been incorporated in the fourjoy. The exterior proportions already reveal a lot about the appearance of our four-seater production smart which will be launched at the end of 2014 and will also enable families to travel together in a smart.”
The exterior: polished aluminium meets white pearlescent paintwork
The study shows that smart is becoming more grown-up. The deliberately three-dimensional, upright front gives it a very expressive appearance that greets the viewer with a fresh smile that is both friendly and assertive. The smart fourjoy proudly displays the large brand emblem on the front grille. The honeycomb structure of the air inlets on the front and the convex and sensuously shaped body surfaces emphasise the family relationship to the studies smart for-us (Detroit 2012) and smart forstars (Paris 2012).

The extremely pronounced tridion cell is a new feature. On the study it is made of polished full-aluminium and its brilliant bright lustre finish emphasises the premium character of the brand.

The raised smart lettering milled from aluminium on the side skirts is a further sign of the top quality. The pearlescent white on the bumpers, front bonnet and tailgate provides a contrast to the aluminium of the tridion cell. The door mirrors “float” on an aluminium stele.

A look back to the future: as with the first-generation smart fortwo the rear lights are integrated in the tridion cell. Like turbines, cubes have been incorporated into the plexiglass there. The headlamps do not have a glass cover and this reinforces the three-dimensional impression of the U-shaped daytime running lights. LEDs are exclusively fitted in the front and tail lights.

Transparent petroleum-coloured moulded parts emphasise the upbeat character of the study. They are found in the wind deflector at the top of the front windscreen, on the A-pillars on the sides and on the rear roof spoiler. The function and colour are reminiscent of 1990s tennis caps.

2013 Bulleta RF22 Renderings

It is the goal of the designer to awaken and keep alive emotions. A Vehicle is perceived with one's senses. The RF22 was designed with human and organic lines in mind. It was important not to follow short lived design trends but rather to have a design philosophy with lines that are unique and classic to endure time that are characterized both by technical and emotional intelligence. The RF22 was designed by acclaimed automotive designer Samir Sadikhov.
Unique Design Features

    - The nose fin of the RF1 acts as a fin providing downforce for the front of the car
    - The side vents of the RF1 are a unique V shaped inspired by the V shaped lines of radar evading stealth fighter aircraft like the F22 Raptor
    - Shoulders are a feature of strength and stability. The shoulders of the RF1 are broad, muscular yet smooth.

Carbon Fiber Where It Matters - The Wheels

The wheels of the RF22 are the world's first all Carbon Fiber wheels saving critical unsprung weight and making the RF22 lighter during high performance turns. The Carbon Fiber weaves are engineered in the correct directions, making them the strongest and lightest carbon fiber wheels made. They have been thouroughly tested for high impact, severe bumps and simulated for hundreds of rounds around The Ring.
Standard Carbon Ceramic Disk Brakes

Born from the application of aerospace derived technology and thanks to the extraordinary light weight of carbon-ceramic discs, the car has a better handling, improving performance by making each corner of the car lighter. Carbon Ceramic brakes resist deformation under heat; allowing predictable and reliable braking under extreme conditions. RF22's Carbon Ceramic Disk Brakes make each corner considerably lighter resulting in better handling.
Light Weight Composite Body

The RF22's composite body is made of GRP Composite (Glass Reinforced Plastic) or optional Carbon Fiber.
Bulleta Designed TVS2300 Supercharger with Eaton Turbine Technology

The Bulleta designed supercharger forces more air into the engine combustion chambers resulting in more power. Larger turbines allow the supercharger spin slower and to remain cooler; keeping overall engine temperatures low.

Tata Tuff Truck marks the launch of Tata Motors

Fusion Automotive the Australian distributor of Tata Motors has developed a unique and exclusively designed concept vehicle for the launch of the Tata Motors brand in Australia.

The uniquely designed concept vehicle, will be premiered at the National 4×4 & Outdoors Show and Fishing & Boating Expo, August 23-25 at the Melbourne Showgrounds, was designed and built in a joint venture between Fusion Automotive and Tata Motors, with the design team headed up by Walkinshaw Automotive Chief Designer Julian Quincey.

Based on the Tata Xenon, the concept vehicle has an exclusively designed body kit and accessories pack including the wheels, snorkel and sports bar with the roof, driving and spot lights proudly provided by Narva.

The design team highlighted the Xenon’s strong wheel arch design as a key feature, and focussed initially on increasing the wheel size and width to cater of larger off road tyres. The 20” wheels are uniquely designed and developed by the design team and machined from a solid billet of aluminium. They have a tough chiselled look purpose made for Xenon and give the vehicle such a strong stance.

With lighting a major feature in the work and play qualities of a 4x4 vehicle, the team designed a state of the art roof light bar that integrates the unique roof rack with a custom Narva LED Xenon lighting rig, for everyday driving; driving lamps and DRL’s were incorporated to make sure the car is both seen and has superb forward visibility at night.

The vehicle is a testament to the engineering ability of the Walkinshaw Automotive team, most of the larger parts were modelled to size on full sized clay model Xenon, however the roof rack and snorkel were 3D printed, whilst other parts like the grilles were CNC milled out of ABS.

The standard Tata Xenon which goes on sale in October 2013 will feature a Euro 5 emission compliant 2.2L turbo diesel engine, driver and front passenger airbags as well as in car features such as blue tooth and USB connectivity as standard.

Both the Tata Xenon “Tuff Truck” and the standard vehicle will be on display in the Automotive Pavilion at the National 4×4 & Outdoors Show and Fishing & Boating Expo and visitors to the Show will be able to experience the vehicle first hand with Test Rides available in the Action Arena.

2002 TVR T350 Concept

The T350 is a concept coupe based on the running gear of the universally acclaimed Tamora. The concept is to apply TVR's expertise gained in motorsport to a road car, and both shape and engineering owe much to TVR's racing programme. It is intended to form the basis of a racing car for the new GT Cup class of the British GT Championship as well as for a number of overseas one-make race series. This car is available in two forms - the T350C, where C stands for coupe, and the T350T, for targa, which is the version with two removable panels overhead.

Function dominates form with the T350 and its motorsport application determines the way the car looks. As a result, every effort has been made to maximise downforce while minimising drag. The frontal area is very smooth without a central radiator intake which helps it punch through the air easily while the sharply cut off tail punctuates the airflow sharply to reduce drag. The sloping roofline at the back has been very precisely profiled to ensure that the airflow remains attached to the car in order to negate lift. Allied to a diffuser under the exhausts and a splitter at the front, the T350's shape has been optimised aerodynamically in a way that is simply impossible with a two-seater convertible.

The interior of the T350 is largely based on that of the Tamora and is all the better for that. It has the same analogue readout for speed and engine revs above a switchable multi-function display which gives the driver the fullest range of information from engine water and oil temperature, outside air temperature and battery volts to maximum and minimum values achieved (including maximum speed). A sports pack is available which will have extra readouts including lap times. With a side-opening hatchback above the large luggage area, an unexpected advantage will also come in terms of plenty of boot space with easy loading.

The T350 enjoys the performance its looks promise. It is propelled by the same 350 bhp version of TVR's Speed Six engine that has seen the Tamora decimate the competition in test after test by the motoring press. In the case of the T350, acceleration, top speed and handling have been helped by its aerodynamically superb shape as well as its lower weight and centre of gravity. Now in production for five years, the Speed Six is a tried and tested unit and has performed admirably in the hothouse environment of GT endurance racing including the Spa 24 hour race in 2002. In all variants, TVR's own engine has been designed with responsiveness in mind which is the reason for it having individual throttle butterflies per cylinder and an ignition and fuelling map specifically written to make revs rise and fall instantaneously.
