2003 Subaru B11S Concept by Fuore Design

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (FHI), a global manufacturer of transportation and aerospace-related products and the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced the unveiling of a revolutionary concept car, the Subaru B11S, at the 73rd International Geneva Motor Show to be held from 6 to 16 March. Combining sophisticated sporty design with ample interior space, the Subaru B11S represents a new type of four-door Coupe. While it was developed to demonstrate FHI�s future design direction and its strengthened design capabilities, the Subaru B11S also features superb driving performance, which is ensured by a symmetrical AWD (all-wheel drive) system in combination with a horizontally-opposed engine.

Since Kyoji Takenaka assumed the title of President and Chief Operating Officer in June 2001, FHI has been enhancing its design capabilities as part of company-wide reforms aimed at improving the Subaru brand. One year later, as FHI began placing greater emphasis on the importance of design development, the long experienced Subaru car designer, Kiyoshi Sugimoto, was promoted to the position of Vice President and General Manager of Subaru Design Department, which marked the first time that a car designer was appointed as an executive officer. The Subaru B11S is the first concept car designed under the leadership of Mr. Sugimoto with guidance from Mr. Takenaka in initial concept development. The Barcelona-based independent design studio, Fuore Design International, under the leadership of Erwin Himmel, which has been retained by FHI as a consultancy, fully contributed to the creation of the B11S.

Concept

The B11S has been developed to pursue the concept of Gran Utility Turismo, which symbolises the embodiment of the perfect blend of sporty driving, comfort, functionality and elegance. The car incorporates all the crucial ingredients of this concept. It features attractive styling and packaging, which further reflect FHI�s corporate philosophy, Innovative, Individual and Courageous; Subaru�s technological strengths, such as the horizontally-opposed engine and a symmetrical AWD system; and driving performance equivalent to a high-performance sports car for the enthusiast.

Exterior design

The exterior design, composed of sophisticated flowing curves, expresses an elegant, sleek Coupe, in spite of the fact that the car comfortably accommodates four adults. The front fascia, which fortifies its sporty look, conjures up the turbine of a small jet plane and the freedom of flying wings � an association with FHI�s corporate roots as an aircraft company, as well as a reminder of outstanding aerodynamic technology and performance.

The two pairs of side doors open like gates and latch in the middle without a conventional B-pillar, an arrangement that facilitates access to the back seats and makes interior room seem even more spacious. Developed specifically for the B11S, the frosted glass roof provides an open-air feeling, as in a convertible, and it creates a pleasant soft light inside the vehicle that enhances the quality look of its interior. The unique glass roof design was inspired by the design and construction of traditional Japanese umbrellas.

Interior design

In sharp contrast to the white pearl body colour, for the interior of the B11S the colour blue has been selected, influenced by Subaru's characteristic colour. Strong emphasis was placed on crafting an understated yet high-quality ambience in the cabin�s design, which is reminiscent of Japanese interior decoration and its attention-to-detail approach. In addition, the folding rear seats allow easy access to and from the trunk for luggage or sports equipment. The interior provides a comfortable space for passengers and offers practical solutions at the same time.

Subaru WRX RS40 introduced in Australia

In its 40th anniversary year and 20 years since the original turbocharged “pocket rocket” WRX went on sale in Japan, Subaru Australia has launched the last of its current generation WRX special editions, the RS40.

The All-Wheel Drive WRX RS40 adds more than $7000 of value-packed features that pay tribute to Subaru’s motorsport heritage.

They include the iconic combination of WR blue mica paint, gold-coloured 17-inch alloy wheels and a variety of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) components - a clear reminder of the brand’s local and international rallying success.

The WRX RS40 is only available in sedan and is strictly limited to 300 units, all in WR Blue Mica paint.

WRX RS40 is available for pre-order now and will be in showrooms from the end of August.

2014 Subaru BRZ STI - First official teaser

In 2011, the Japanese car maker Subaru has unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show the BRZ STI Concept. As we find out back then, the prototype was previewing a production version of the coupe, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show.

This year, the Japanese car maker is planning to introduce on the market a performance version of the BRZ with the STI badge on it.

On the official STI brand webpage we found out the message "Coming soon", along with two pictures. We are talking about a fender air vent and a front grille, both branded with STI logo.

When you try to download the images you will find out that they are called "BRZ tS teaser" which means this won't be a STI version. As you know, the "tS" name is used for those models designed by STI house but who don't have all the extra performances.

According to some rumors, the brand new STI model will be unveiled this year at the LA Motor Show or at the Tokyo Motor Show.

2014 Subaru Forester

The all-new 2014 Subaru Forester was first introduced at the 2012 and is the fourth-generation crossover. It made its launch here in the U.S. just recently and gets much more than just a mild refresh for the fourth-generation model. Subaru has given the crossover a complete redo both inside and out and we could see the differences as soon as we checked it out. The new Forester is built on a new platform but as before will be offered in two models, the Forester 2.5i and turbocharged Forester 2.0XT. This week we’ll be testing a 2.5i Touring model. We immediately noticed the changes on the exterior that has a longer wheelbase and lots of glass. The new model doesn’t look significantly different, but has updated styling inside and out.
Subaru made a number of important improvements on the new mid-size SUV and it competes in the highly competitive segment with the 2013 Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. One of the biggest changes comes in fuel mileage. The 2014 model jumps to the head of its segment in all-wheel drive fuel economy. This 2.5i Forester with the automatic CVT will achieve an EPA estimated fuel mileage rating of 24 mpg city / 32 mpg highway / 27 mpg combined. That’s a significant improvement over the outgoing model and will be a big draw with buyers.

2014 Forester offers more interior room

The 2014 Forester is built on a new platform featuring a longer wheelbase and vehicle length and width is increased. Rear-seat legroom now rivals many full-size SUVs where legroom is now 41.7 inches. With the 60/40 split rear seatbacks lowered, maximum rear cargo area room is now 74.7 cu. ft., which is among the best in class. Even with the higher ground clearance, we noticed the Forester is easy to get in and out of. Up front the cabin feels spacious, the controls are easy to use and storage is plentiful. One of the things this driver noticed is the large amount of glass and how easy it is to see out the front, sides and rear. It makes the Forester feel like a much larger vehicle from the inside.
Subaru is attracting a whole new buyer with the Forester who’s never purchased the brand before: those who lead active lifestyles. The 2014 version still comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a distinction from the competition that only come with front-wheel drive as standard and offer all-wheel drive as an extra-cost option. The fully independent suspension offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance and gives these active buyers the ability to venture off the pavement. For those of us in Colorado and the mountain states, this is a big draw and the reason Subaru sells more of their vehicles here than just about anywhere else in the U.S.

X Mode

Subaru is going after a new customer, and the new 2014 Forester will be purchased by people with active lifestyles. The 2014 Forester gets a new feature called X Mode that will allow owners in North America to go through more extreme conditions both on the road and off. Most SUV owners never take their vehicle off-road, but Subaru owners are a different breed and the X Mode gives the extra assist they will need for sporting fun. We tried the new feature and were impressed with how easy it is to engage.
We took it on some unpaved and slippery roads during a late spring Colorado snowstorm. Torque was distributed evenly to all four wheels and one or more wheels began to slip, but X Mode kept the Forester moving forward without losing traction in the mud and snow. With a flip of a switch, X Mode was engaged and will allow any driver regardless of skill level, to escape any extreme situation they may encounter. Families who buy the 2014 Forester who live in harsh climates will appreciate X Mode.
